Summer, Winter Care & Eye Care


Summer Care


For good night’s sleep: Apply castor oil on the feet, leave for some time and then take bath.

Avoid: fish, dry fish, chicken (Especially Grilled) as it increases body heat. Avoid curd as it increases pitha. Avoid pickles, tamarind, cluster beans, potato, and raw banana. Mango may cause boils.
Avoid fatty foods, oily foods, spicy foods,cake, biscuit, ice cream. This causes malabsorbtion.
 
Instead of pickles : Use radish, narthankai, mango, banana stem and mix salt, lemon juice, pepper powder/chilli powder and consume.
When you sweat:  Avoid drinking soft drinks, taking bath, sitting in AC, drinking water. When you cool the body suddenly, it leads to boils, dry skin etc. So, cool off for some time and then do the above.
Avoid drinking too much water:
Drinking too much water affects digestion.  Boil dry ginger, coriander seeds in water and drink to avoid constipation. Or mix jiggery in warm milk or butter milk and drink.

To cool the body:
  • Take oil bath: Apply Gingely oil, leave for 30 min and take bath.
  • Put Vilamichai root, vetti ver in earthen pot and drink to cool the body. Or boil nannari root in water and drink. Or soak boiled rice in water overnight and drink it next morning.
  • Palm fruit decreases body heat to a large extent.  Take tender one else it will increase pitha and cause stomach ache.
  • Eat cucumber+salt+pepper to reduce body heat. Pepper reduces the poisonous substances in cucumber, you can also mix cucumber in curd and consume.

Consume:
  • Take vegetables rich in water such as pumpkin, bottle guard, ridge guard, kovai etc.
  • Take anar, lemon, and amla. It is good for liver.
  • Instead of curd, consume butter milk.
  • Tender coconut:  It is good for the body.  But avoid drinking in empty stomach or when hungry as it will cause loss of appetite, stomach ache etc. Avoid drinking it when you have throat problem or when sweating as it will cause neck or back pain.
 
For head ache: Grind cardamom and jeera and apply on the forehead.
Giddiness: Mix ginger, rock salt in butter milk and drink to reduce giddiness.
Constipation: To cure constipation, boil kadukai, raisin, dry ginger and drink. Consume peyan banana along with honey, sugar and cardamom.
To cure prickly heat: Boil nannari root, vilamichai root, adhimaduram in water and drink. Or apply coconut water. Or apply butter milk+ice and take bath.
For mouth ulcer: Apply butter or coconut milk. Or eat sesame seeds+honey+ghee. Or consume banana, athipalam, pistha.
For head boils in children:  Soak kasakasa in water overnight and then grind into a paste the next day and mix coconut milk. Then apply and take bath. Avoid Seekakai, shampoo and soap.
Chicken Pox:
  • Immediately consult a doctor as it may cause blindness and fertility issues.  Apply turmeric+neem all over the body. Consume neelavembu+neem+turmeric boiled in water.
  • Avoid giving tender coconut in the beginning as it will increase the disease. Give towards the end.
  • Consume tomato, banana stem soup, vegetable soup and fruit juices, butter milk, small onion.

To protect the hair in summer: Use shampoo with UV filters. For itchy scalp: Boil oil and massage into the scalp. Grind neem and small onion, apply for 10 min and take bath. This makes the hair soft.
For itchy body: Put Thulsi powder, neem leaves, turmeric powder in a bucket, leave it overnight and take bath. Apply coconut oil over the body and take bath.
For face: Apply unboiled milk and wash it off. Or mix multani matti and milk and wash it off.  Or apply cantaloupe (kirni) or water melon.  Aloe vera also helps.  Can apply papaya/cucumber for cooling effect.
For dandruff: Apply neem juice, leave it for some time and take bath with Seekakai.
To avoid sweating odour: Put mint leaves or camphor in water and take bath. Or put little rock salt in water and take bath.  Or mix 500g green gram, magilampoo, kasthuri manjal, rose petals, shenbaga mottu, avaaram poo and powder it. Apply and take bath to reduce the odour. Avoid kadalai maavu in summer.
For pimples: apply neem juice. Or apply Thulsi powder+sandal.







Winter Care



  • Guava, Oranges and Radish – Enriched with Vitamin C and is good for the immune system.
  • Green peas, Cabbage, Beetroot
  • Pepper
  • Oil massage reduces inflammation of joints. Ideal for the aged.
  • For children, heat camphor and coconut oil and apply on the chest. It cures common cold.


AVOID GETTING SICK DURING RAINY SEASON~


1. BOOST YOUR Immune system by eating and drinking these foods.

Vegetables:
Cruciferous & Leafy Greens (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach, Brussels sprouts, Spinach, Carrots, Squash, Malunggay, Barley Grass)
Fruits: Lemon, Lime, Calamansi, Grapefruit, Oranges, Strawberries, Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Papaya, Kiwi, Guava)
Spices & Herb: Garlic, Turmeric, Parsley, Olive leaf extract

Drain your Sickness Away. Drinking water is an indirect form of prevention and sometimes treatment to all sorts of illnesses. Water hydrates the body, helping it deals with cold and flu viruses. Water also cleanses the body as it washes away germs and bacteria through your excretory systems. Remember, you should drink 12-14 glasses of water a day.

Sip a Hot Soup. Consuming a bowl of hot soup is healthy, especially during the rainy season. Its temperature will give your body some warmth that will help you withstand rain and the cold monsoon breeze longer. For people soaked in rain water, soup provides instant relief since its warm base clears up phlegm in the nasal cavities and general throat area. It also cleanses your body as it carries away bacteria and waste products to the body’s excretory system.

Take a Shower when You Get Soaked by Rain.
Wash your Hands.
Get enough sleep and eat 5 times a day. 
Limit Your Alcohol. 
Eliminate Smoking. 










Eye Care:




Before sleeping,

  • Apply coconut oil or sesame (Gingely) oil to palm and feet. 
  • Dip cotton in rose water and keep over the eyes for 10 minutes. Add a drop of castor oil.(verify)
  • Or you can keep cucumber or potato over the eyes for 5 minutes.  
  • Dip a cotton ball in rose water to which few drops of castor oil has been added and apply on your eyes for 10-15 minutes for sparkling eyes.
All these keep they eyes cool. They also prevent dark circles.


1.     Foods ideal for eyes are carrot, milk, green leaves, egg yolk, fish, butter, milk, raw vegetables.

2.     Smelling lavender oil before going to bed gives you deep sleep.

3.     Don't use lemon juice or kadalai maavu around eyes. Use only for face.

4.     Watch sun in the early morning for few minutes. 

5.     If you read more, rub the tips of your finger around your eyes in circles.

6.     Wash eyes with cold water for atleast 3 times a day.
